Beef kofta. Making kofta is an ancient way of grilling ground meat. Aromatic and savory spices are added to the meat and it is shaped around a skewer for grilling. It is a lot like a sausage, but without the casing.
It's basically a meatball using either beef, chicken or lamb, mixed with herbs, Middle Eastern spices and onions. Kofta is a popular dish made from grilled ground beef that is served throughout the Middle-East. This is a wonderful and simple version I picked up in Egypt. Ingredients of Beef kofta
- It's 500 gms of lean minced beef.
- It's 1 of habanero chilli.
- You need 1 tbls of lemon juice.
- You need 3 cloves of garlic.
- You need 1 tsp of salt.
- It's 2 tbls of parsley leaves.
- Prepare 1 tbls of mint leaves.
- Prepare 1 of small onion.
A great accompaniment is saffron rice. A fragrant mixture of aromatics like onion, ginger, and garlic give this kofta its flavor, along with spices like cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and cloves. These ingredients are blended into a purée that keeps the kofta moist, along with the higher fat percentage in the beef. Kafta (or kefta) is a traditional middle eastern dish made with ground beef or lamb, minced onions, chopped parsley, and seasoned with middle eastern spices.
Beef kofta step by step
- Add parsley and mint in food processor and pulse until leaves are chopped.
- Add garlic and onions and pulse until chopped and mixed with the herbs.
- Add the minced beef, salt and lemon juice and pulse until all ingredients are mixed.
- Form patties and leave aside.
- Heat a grill pan with some cooking oil and grill each patty for about 1 minute or so on each side (until cooked 😊). I prefer it when grill marks form on the patties. You can cook these over a bbq grill too 😉.
